ACT for Anxiety and Depression

On-Demand, Self-Paced Course

3 CE's Available

This course is designed to present psychologists and practitioners with The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Training (ACT) approach to working with clients presenting with anxiety and depression.

ACT has been shown to be an effective evidence-based treatment for anxiety and depression. Based on the research, Dr. Polk and Mr. Tenaglia (the instructors) will demonstrate how to utilize acceptance and present moment awareness, two key components of ACT, in addressing/treating anxiety and depression in clinical settings with clients.

Dr. Polk and Mr. Tenaglia will also identify for participants the role experiential avoidance plays in developing and maintaining anxiety and depression. Experiential avoidance has been established as the causative factor within the research base of ACT, known as Relational Frame Theory. With this understanding, Dr. Polk and Mr. Tenaglia will guide participants in utilizing the committed action process to lessen the impact of experiential avoidance for clients presenting with this issue.

Throughout this activity, Dr. Polk and Mr. Tenaglia will lead participants through the core ACT processes of change and how they map onto effective clinical interventions supported by the research.

  • Demonstrate how to utilize acceptance and present-moment awareness in addressing anxiety and depression with clients
  • Identify the role of experiential avoidance in anxiety/depression and how to generate the acceptance and committed action process.
