This course is designed as an introduction to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Training (ACT) for psychologists and practitioners.

ACT is an approach to problems in living based on a philosophy of science, functional contextualism, and behavioral/evolutionary model of language and cognition, Relational Frame Theory (RFT).

ACT has been shown to be effective for clients pursuing mental and behavioral health treatment as well as organizational and social wellness.

This course provides an overview of the core ACT processes utilized in treatment.

Dr. Polk and Mr. Tenaglia will demonstrate how to use the colloquial ACT processes of Show Up, Let Go, and Get Moving, identify the role of experiential avoidance in the development of behavioral problems, and how to target change through the ACT acceptance and commitment process.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Demonstrate how to use the three colloquial ACT processes of Show Up, Let Go, and Get Moving. 
  2. Identify the role of experiential avoidance in behavior problems and how to generate the acceptance and committed action process.
  3. Identify the six core ACT processes and the target for change in psychological problems.
